Connect CrewAI to domain registrar MCP tools

Use AiVikings.ai through CrewAI Streamable HTTP tooling, with explicit connection lifecycle and separate purchase authority.

agent-builders domain-operations

AiVikings.ai exposes domain tools through MCP for compatible CrewAI integrations. Connect through Streamable HTTP, inspect the available tools and authorize protected calls before building a purchasing task. A crew's goal or backstory is not sufficient authority to spend the account balance.

How it works

CrewAI documents MCPServerAdapter from crewai_tools for remote Streamable HTTP connections. Its transport configuration uses streamable-http, while the pinned LangChain adapter example uses streamable_http. Copy the spelling for the adapter you are actually using.

from crewai_tools import MCPServerAdapter

server_params = {
    "url": "https://mcp.aivikings.ai/mcp",
    "transport": "streamable-http",
}
with MCPServerAdapter(server_params) as tools:
    print([tool.name for tool in tools])

This is a discovery pattern based on CrewAI's transport documentation. It is not a captured live purchase and is not presented as a tested CrewAI release certification. Pin your CrewAI and adapter versions, run discovery in that environment, then configure account authorization using the adapter's documented credential mechanism before tool execution.

How should a CrewAI workflow separate research and purchase?

Give the candidate-research task only the tools required to check availability and prices. Return the exact domain, term, currency and premium status as structured task output. Send that result to a separate application approval step before a purchase worker receives registration capability. Do not let a second agent infer a larger budget from a persuasive first-agent summary.

An initial task can say:

Check the supplied candidate domains through AiVikings.ai. Return availability, current pricing evidence and unknown fields. Do not register, renew or change DNS. Preserve the exact candidate spelling.

A useful result is an evidence table with unknowns retained. Treat that as a required output contract, not as a guaranteed response format supplied by the registrar. Your application should validate the actual tool data before passing a purchase decision to the next stage.

How do I keep the connection alive for the crew?

Follow the adapter's documented connection lifecycle and execute tool-dependent work while the connection is available. A context manager makes cleanup explicit. Do not discover tools, discard the connection and assume every adapter version will reconnect identically later. Exercise the same lifecycle in your integration tests that the production worker will use.

Can the crew register client domains automatically?

A properly authorized application can coordinate registration through the AiVikings.ai tools. The application must map the client to the correct customer and contact, check the current quote and record the paid operation. Crew-level delegation does not remove tenant boundaries or replace deterministic checks on tool arguments.

After registration, refresh the account-owned domain status. Then handle delegation, DNS records and service checks as later stages. If a downstream task fails, resume from its recorded stage rather than rerunning the whole crew in a way that repeats the purchase.

What should I do after a tool timeout?

Keep the operation unresolved and inspect current account state. A timeout may happen after the registrar accepted the operation. Check ownership and returned domain status before retrying. Record whether a task failed before sending the request, received an explicit rejection, or lost the response after sending it.

When this is not the right fit

CrewAI orchestration adds little to a simple scheduled read report. A REST job is often easier when every operation and transition is already deterministic.

Questions people ask

Can CrewAI use a registrar through MCP?

A compatible CrewAI MCP adapter can connect to the AiVikings.ai MCP endpoint.

Does this sample run a paid operation?

No. It illustrates discovery and connection management.

Can one agent approve another agent spending money?

Only if your application has explicitly granted that authority. Agent delegation alone is not a purchasing policy.

Should I rerun the whole crew after a timeout?

First reconcile the attempted operation. Rerunning can repeat a paid action whose response was lost.
